I had a root canal done on #31. However, I had pain radiating from #29-#31. The Endo felt the problem was in #31 due to a large filling close to the nerve. She did the root canal on that tooth. It got worse. They found a fracture in the tooth. They pulled number #31. It's now months later and I still have pain in #29 and around the gum. A gum specialist said everything looked fine and the Endo felt that #29 and #30 are vital. However, why do I still have a achy, dull throbbing pain in tooth #29. Could this be some sort of jaw bone infection? A fractured tooth or crack? He does not feel I need a root canal which I'm very happy about. But what could this be. It all started back in November and there is still pain in #29. Please help.

  • The symptoms are very vague. Dull pain is normally because of some gum infection. In tooth infection you have acute pain and if it would have been crack then the pain increases when you bite on the tooth. So you go for warm saline rinses 2-3 times a day for atleast 2 weeks and try to keep the area clean. If your dentist feels alike then he can precribe you a course of antibiotics which can take care of any infection which is not visible.
