I had my tooth # 17 extracted this Tuesday and now, four days later, I still have pain that requires me to take Ibuprofen every 4-6 hours. I wake up with pain around the same time in the morning and I need a painkiller. I do rinses with salty water 4-5 times a day. The tooth extraction itself was rather rough - they had to cut the gum as the outside tooth was half broken. They performed a couple of stitches. The only good news is that the swelling is now gone - but it is still sore and very painful. I went to the dentist the other day (on Thursday and she said it was healing normally). I had then swelling - she said to go back again if the swelling/pain persists. Is it normal to still feel pain and could there be something wrong ? Thanks ! Nora

  • It looks like you have surgical extraction and it is normal to have pain minimum for a week after the extracton . If there is no swelling and you are taking all the precautions like maintaining good oral hygeine, brushing twice and using normal saline rinses then you do not havve to worry. The pain wil go in another 2 to 3 days. if you want to now more about the do's and don'ts after the tooth extraction you can visit the following link on our website..... http://www.identalhub.com/article_do's-and-don'ts-after-tooth-extraction-153.aspx
