Hello, Five days ago, I got a replacement filling in my last bottom tooth. Since then I have been experiencing sensitivity in that tooth when I drink cold/warm liquids. Also, the retromolar pad is very painful, especially when I touth it. The part of the pad that particularly hurts is right next to the tooth.I contacted my dentist and he said he manipulated my gum and tooth quite a bit and to wait a few days; then he can see me in a week or so. I don't think I can wait that long. My question is: What are symptoms of an infection?Because, I think I may have one. This morning I woke up with a foul taste in my mouth. My dentist dosen't seem to think I have an infection (although he did not look at it) Thank you

  • Dear SHALINI, How deep was your cavity? If was too deep then the pain is normal as dentist might have reached the cementoenamel junction. So, it will take some time to be normal. But if the excavation was not that deep then the only reason can be overfilling or filling poking the gingiva. If you are having pain after permanent filling then i would suggest you to get an Xray done to see if the filling has touched the nerve or not...Since you are having intermittent pain, then you can start with sensodyne tooth paste and brush twice daily concentrating on that tooth...hope the problem should go in a week.

  • Dear RENEE Initially for couple of days there is sensitivity to the tooth post filling and since you had a replacement filling, the chances of sensitivity and pain are more. Dont worry, do warm saline gargles and brush with fluoride containing or anti-sensitive tooth paste. The condition with gradually subside and take care not to eat too hot or too cold for few days
