  • I also had to go thru gums problems. Whe I went to dentist, he told me that it is all due to not taking care of your gums. He told me the importance to maintaining the oral hygiene and showed me how to take care of gums. I read your question and answers of Dr. Ritz. In details you can take care of gums by following. Once gum disease strikes you, you are keeping yourself open to a lot of other health hazards. It can result in a lot of pain and discomfort, along with the amount of money that you will have to spend in order to keep the infection under control. Although, one can certainly do a lot to alleviate gum disease in such a manner that it doesn’t affect your life. Do not scrimp on the practice of brushing and flossing your teeth daily, twice a day without fail. This will enable you to keep gum disease at bay. Gum Disease It is also called periodontal disease. It is when infection gets to the gums and they get inflamed. Buildup of plaque and tartar is the main reason for that. If you do not take care of this in time, there will be other health repercussions waiting round the corner. Diseases that can affect your gums: Gingivitis It happens when the bacteria attack the gums, leaving your teeth exposed and the bacteria eating away into the bone that supports your teeth. This disease spreads rapidly and within no time will you be left with no teeth in your mouth. This can happen in a real short span of time if the bacteria and the infection are not addressed immediately and appropriately. The infection can spread immediately and might get worse as time progresses. If your gums have any of these dangerous symptoms then you must get yourself to the dentist immediately: • Red gums • Swollen gums • Bleeding gums • Bad breath • Abscesses between teeth and gums • Loosening teeth. All of these are a sure shot sign that you have gum disease and if not taken care of will be a bad state to find your teeth in. Gum disease can be extremely painful and affect all the parts of your life. The treatment does not come easy too. you will end up spending a mini fortune on it and will wonder why on earth didn’t you ever brush and floss regularly. You must visit your dentist regularly if you want to keep gum disease at bay. Besides stringent oral hygiene that you follow, this is the only other way out of gum disease. Your dentist can be a real friend in getting your teeth all cleaned up and alleviating any signs of gum disease. The dentist will be able to spot any sign of the calculus build up on your teeth. This when cleaned and removed will allow your teeth to keep on serving you for a long time to come. You will find that it is quite easy to keep gum disease away and even after it strikes you, adequate methods and measures taken will certainly wipe it out or at least keep it under check. Ensure that you keep in mind that you have only one set of teeth and gums to last you a lifetime and given no second chance.

  • If you were having bleeding and got the cleaning done that means your gums were inflamed and you were having gingivitis. After getting the cleaning done when the healing takes place the gums do receede and the teeth look longer. Without seeing the case i can not comment on that . You have to maintain very good oral hygeine. You got one tooth extracted  also. So get it replaced either by fixed bridge or the implant. If you do not get it replaced the condition will aggravate if you want to know more about the gum diseases, Fixed crown and bridge and the implant you can browse our website where ample info is available
